Employer Sponsored Visas
The Permanent Employer Sponsored Programme consists of the following:
- Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS)
- Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)
The programme allows employers to nominate foreign workers for permanent residence to fill genuine vacancies in their business.
Visa Description
This temporary visa lets an employer sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they can’t find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.
Requirements
You might be able to get this visa if:
- be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible short-term skilled occupations
- have at least 2 years relevant work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field
- have a relevant skills assessment if this is required for your occupation
- work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless you are exempt
- meet minimum standards of English language proficiency unless you are exempt from needing to show this
Length of Stay
You can stay for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.
Global processing times
- 75 per cent of applications processed in 35 days
- 90 per cent of applications processed in 56 months

Allows skilled workers to live in Australia permanently
You must:
- be nominated by an approved Australian employer
- meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements of the position
- meet the other requirements of one of the streams of this visa.
Permanently
You can:
- stay in Australia permanently
- travel to and from Australia for 5 years
- apply for Australian citizenship (if eligible).
Allows skilled workers to live in Australia permanently by working in regional Australia.
You must:
- be nominated by an approved Australian employer for a job in regional Australia
- are under 45 years of age
- meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements of the position
- meet the other requirements of one of the streams of this visa.
Permanently
You can:
- stay in Australia permanently
- apply for Australian citizenship (if eligible).
You must work permanently in a regional area for two years.
